Some News About Arizona Employers.



161,000 Jobs

"Arizona, riding the wave of job growth in the West, is expected to add 161,000 jobs by the end of 1997 despite a slowing economy, according to a state report released 3-27-96.

The state is expected to see a gain in payroll employment of 78,300 jobs in 96 and 83,100 in 97, with "significant strengths" in virtually all sectors of the economy, the Arizona Department of Economic Security said in its forecast. Arizona's job creation has run 2 1/2 times the national average. About 75% of the job growth through is expected to occur in the Phoenix area." Written by Carile of the Arizona Repulic.


Arizona Breaks Another Record!

We broke records in November by adding 16,500 to our work force in Arizona. For the first time we have over 1.8 million in our work force not including agricultural workers. The Phoenix area accounted for 12,800 of that gain. We usually account for 65% of the state but this month we were up to 77%. The jobless rate didn't move much.(3.5% down to 3.4%)The majority increase came in the trade sector with an increase of 7,800 jobs.

Cellular One Expanding!

"Cellular One, one of Arizona's two major cellular-phone service providers, plans to hire about 200 workers in the next two to three years, the company said Monday. The hirings are part of an expansion of Cellular One's regional operations center in the Valley, where it competes against US West Cellular. The company moved its regional center over the weekend into a 37,000 sq. ft. facility in PHX, nearly tripling the size of its previous regional center. It was needed to handle the growth rate of more than 50% over the past three years." Arizona Republic 2-13-96


Microchip Expansion

Microchip of Chandler just announced that it is going to build a $1-billion, 2,000-job expansion to its manufacturing facilities. Microchip, one of the worlds largest producers of microcontrollers for appliances, autos and electronic intruments, decided on Chandler for the 300,000 sq.ft. manufacturing complex after a search throughout the U.S. and overseas. It will break ground this July. Chandler is already home to Intel's $1.3-billion Fab-12 microchip plant, which is sceduled to be finished this year. These new plants will also attract many new suppliers to Chandler, to be closer to their market. We have a win-win situation, clean business and good paying jobs.

AlliedSignal to concentrate in Tempe

Allied Signal is closing down it's Stratford plant in Conn. siteing that the plant is no longer viable because of the Army pulling out. Now they have to move things aroud a bit, so they want to centralize more in Tempe Az. A new expansion with 3 buildings could be built within 2-5 years. The plan is for 305,000 sq.ft. And on the drawing board is a plan for 2 buildings encopassing 360,000 sq.ft. AlliedSignal manufactures parts for military and commercial aircraft, submarines and the space program.

Schwab Expansion

Charles Schwab & Co. has selected Phoenix as the site for the company's largest expansion ever. They plan to hire 2,300 workers by 1999. They started here in 1992 with 170 people and they feel that the economic development of Arizona is now and in the future.

We Need Constuction Help!

The pounding of hammers and pouring of concrete continues at a frenzied pace across the valley. There were 2,390 housing permits issued in Maricopa County (Phoenix Area) in Oct. up from 1,960 last year at this time according to R.L.Browns Phoenix Housing Market Letter" We are on track to beat last years near record pace" June 95 was the industries best month ever. The hot spot is the Mesa-Gilbert area.With 593 permits this year compared to 272 last year and the race is on to find the land to develop. Home builders are spending more time looking for lots to build on to stay ahead of buyer demand. Several major developments in the N/E and N/W valley are due to come on line in the spring of 96.
